About Us

Café Montaña was established in Costa Rica in 1960, and at that time was known as “Industrias de Café La Montaña” with a production capacity of 264 lbs of Pure 100% Arabica gourmet coffee per day using a handmade processing method.

In 1974 the production of our highland gourmet coffee and consumption had grown in Costa Rica, and new investments were made by Café Montaña by buying a small roasting plant where we began processing our fine gourmet coffee products and the brand name of “Montaña” was formally introduced to the public, becoming the lead brand name for Sierra Madre Compañía Tostadora de Café S.A. by the end of 1999.

Today, Café Montaña fine gourmet 100% Arabica coffee´s farm and plant is based in the picturesque province of Alajuela, and the coffee roasting plant, with its expert Arabica coffee roasting staff and personnel is surrounded by beautiful gourmet coffee plantations. Café Montaña has an entire delivery fleet of trucks for our products and our personnel is highly qualified in all areas of gourmet coffee selection, processing, roasting and packaging. Café Montaña´s network reaches from the great metropolitan area of San Jose into the rural regions of Costa Rica providing excellent coverage on the different distribution channels throughout the country.

We have for over 45 years maintained the same quality and the same high standards we established from day one of Café Montaña´s fist bag of Arabica gourmet coffee sold. Café Montaña is served with great tradition in homes and offices throughout Costa Rica and now the world over.

Our roasting plant has the latest bean selection and roasting technology available and a philosophy of continuous improvement and customer satisfaction. We believe in the continuous education and training of our personnel, quality (ISO 9000) and ecological programs (certified ecological flag) giving our customers every guarantee with their fine gourmet Arabica coffee purchase, now available in Espresso, dark, medium, and light roasts.

Our production capacity and the quality of our Arabica gourmet coffee products have given us the opportunity to market our products worldwide and have been widely accepted in the highly demanding and quality conscious markets such the United States, England and Canada, just to mention a few.

We currently have important overseas clients who we produce and private label coffee products for such as: Land Rover Café, Central American Partners (certified ecological coffee) amongst others.

In 2005 we launched the corporate web site and in 2007 our online coffee shop www.montanacoffeeshop.com after the many emails from customers who had sampled our coffees in Costa Rica and wanted to have the opportunity to continue to enjoy a fabulous tasting cup of Café Montaña gourmet Arabica coffee at home or in the office worldwide.
